JioStar reported a 10.1 per cent year-on-year growth in revenue from operations at Rs 6,806 crore for the July-September quarter of FY27, supported by subscription income and digital entertainment advertising, despite a weak advertising environment.
However, net profit declined 13.2 per cent to Rs 1,147 crore from Rs 1,322 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.
Gross revenue rose 9.8 per cent to Rs 7,944 crore, while EBITDA from operations declined 10.5 per cent to Rs 1,372 crore.
Overall EBITDA fell 13.6 per cent to Rs 1,502 crore, with the margin contracting to 22.1 per cent from 28.1 percent a year ago.
JioStar’s financials for the July-September 2026-27 quarter was unveiled yesterday as part of Reliance Industries Ltd.’s overall quarterly financial performance report card.
On the digital front, JioHotstar averaged around 440 million monthly active users (MAUs) during the quarter, registering 10 per cent year-on-year growth.
The streaming platform was launched in Singapore, the UK and Canada in September, with active subscriber volumes in these markets growing around 30 per cent since launch, RIL said in a regulatory filing.
Entertainment watch-time on the platform increased by more than 15 per cent.
The six language editions of ‘Bigg Boss’ collectively attracted over 90 million viewers on JioHotstar in the first three weeks of the season.
‘Resort’ emerged as the platform’s highest-watched show, while ‘Pritam & Pedro’, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, became its most successful short-running series.
Other shows contributing to entertainment viewership included ‘India Ke Top 1%’, ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’, ‘Hustle Season 5’ and ‘Bhojpuri Bawaal’.
During the quarter, mobile phone plan users were given CTV access, allowing them to watch on living-room devices for up to two hours every month, bringing in incremental viewers to CTV.
In sports, the company said the England-India cricket series became the biggest bilateral overseas series on JioHotstar in terms of digital viewership.
Wimbledon 2026, the US Open 2026 and the ongoing Premier League 2026/27 season also delivered stable viewership with stronger monetisation.
The company also extended commerce integrations beyond cricket to these international sporting events.
JioHotstar expanded its connected TV reach during the quarter, with an average connected TV viewer consuming three times more content than a mobile viewer.
It also introduced the ‘Pay Kisi Aur Se’ (Ask Others to Pay) subscription payment facility, which allows users to request friends or family members to pay on their behalf and has driven 10 per cent incremental payment initiations.
