Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves is set to star in Netflix’s upcoming action thriller ‘Maelstrom’. The film will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who also directed Netflix’s action thriller ‘Carry-On’.
According to a PTI report, the film follows a federal marshal who is assigned to protect the fiancée of an arms dealer. She is under witness protection and plans to testify against him.
The story unfolds during a hurricane that cuts off communication with the outside world and prevents reinforcements from arriving. The marshal and the woman must fight the arms dealer’s men while trying to survive the storm.
The project dates back to 1993, when the screenplay was sold to Warner Bros. The original script was written by Gregory Fitzpatrick, while Mark Bianculli has worked on a revised version. The project has now been revived by Netflix.
Keanu Reeves is set to replace actor Alan Ritchson, who was previously attached to the project. The reason for Ritchson’s exit has not been disclosed.
