Shibasish Sarkar, group CEO of Reliance Entertainment, which is part of Anil Ambani’s business empire, has bid adieu to the company to explore newer adventures and has set up a production house called Katha Studios.
In a cryptic post on LinkedIn yesterday, Sarkar said, “After spending two decades in Reliance Entertainment, time to move on. Need wishes & blessings!”
The post accompanies an image that proclaimed Katha Studios, while his profile had been amended too to say ‘Founder Katha Studios’. However, what the new company will do was not revealed in the post.
Several congratulatory messages had flowed in on Sarkar’s post, which hinted at his entrepreneurial inning, including from M&E industry thought-leaders like Sameer Nair, former CEO of Applause Entertainment and Star TV India.
Sarkar was recently re-elected as President of Producers Guild of India and continues to be a Council Member of Media & Entertainment committees of chambers of commerce CII and FICCI, apart from being also associated with FICCI-established Media & Entertainment Skills Council.
A media and entertainment industry professional with over 30 years of corporate experience in handling multiple verticals across films, television, animation, gaming content and operations of digital and new media platforms, Sarkar led Reliance Entertainment as its Group CEO and has produced some successful ventures.
Prior to Reliance, Sarkar held senior positions at Viacom 18, UTV Disney, Percept Films and Godrej Sara Lee with focus on establishing new business, scaling up operations and driving sustainable growth.
Sarkar is a certified Chartered Accountant, Cost Accountant, Company Secretary and MBA with specialization in marketing.
