Netflix will premiere its upcoming Tamil romantic comedy ‘Love’ on October 2, with Soundarya Rajinikanth as showrunner and producer and Balaji Mohan as director.
Starring Aishwarya Lekshmi and Arjun Das, the series revolves around two rival dating-app founders whose professional theories about matching people are put to the test when they find themselves navigating their own relationship.
Set in the world of competing dating platforms FOUND and Find My Bae, ‘Love’ follows Tara and Matthew, who have built businesses around finding compatibility for others but struggle to apply those principles to themselves, a Netflix statement said yesterday.
The series explores contemporary romance through dating apps, matches and unread messages while also examining friendship, family, ambition and self-discovery.
“This has been a defining year for Netflix India, as we’ve deepened our investment in storytelling from the South of India — and ‘Love’ is a title we’re especially excited about,” Monika Shergill, vice president, Content, Netflix India, said.
Describing it as a “modern, chemistry-driven love story”, she said the series brings a fresh take to the contemporary Tamil romantic-comedy space.
Soundarya said the contemporary nature of relationships was a key draw.
“What drew me to ‘Love’ was how effortlessly it captures relationships today without losing its warmth and emotion,” she said, adding that Mohan had created characters who are “ambitious, flawed and incredibly easy to root for”.
She also praised the “refreshing energy” brought to the central pairing by Das and Lekshmi.
For Mohan, the series was an opportunity to examine how romance has changed while retaining its emotional core.
“Romance has evolved, the way we meet people has changed, but the emotions at the heart of relationships remain incredibly familiar and timeless,” he said.
Written by Nirmal Williams, with Sharada Subramanian and Shweta Chakravarty as co-writers, ‘Love’ is produced by May6 Entertainment Factory.
The series marks a new on-screen pairing between Lekshmi and Das and is part of Netflix India’s expanding slate of Tamil-language storytelling.
