RSS panel to make suggestions to neutralise OTT’s ‘cultural pollution’

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has formed an informal panel to examine content available on OTT streaming platforms and suggest ways to address what it describes as ‘cultural pollution’.

According to The Indian Express report today, the panel was formed a few months ago and held its first meeting last month. The group includes former vice-chancellors and RSS pracharaks associated with education and culture.

The panel is expected to prepare a proposal that will be submitted to the Union Ministry of Culture and other stakeholders in the central government. The group is looking at measures to address OTT content that it believes could have a harmful impact on society and Indian culture.

The report said the panel is also considering the need for a regulatory body similar to a censor board for OTT content. However, the panel is informal and there is no fixed deadline for submitting its recommendations. It also plans to consult legal experts before preparing its proposal.
