The Apple Music ‘Super Bowl LX Halftime Show’ starring Bad Bunny led the first night of the 78th Emmy Awards with seven wins, followed by ‘The Traitors’ with six and ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ with five, as the Television Academy honoured outstanding artistic and technical achievement across variety, reality and nonfiction programming.

‘The Muppet Show’ won four awards, while ‘Love On The Spectrum’ took three and ‘My Mom Jayne: A Film By Mariska Hargitay’ and ‘Ocean With David Attenborough’ won two each.

The ceremony, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 5, recognised artists and craftspeople in categories including cinematography, costumes, casting, editing and hosting, the Academy said in a release issued in LA.

Jimmy Kimmel won Outstanding Host for a Game Show for ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’, while ‘Jeopardy!’ won Outstanding Game Show.

 ‘The Traitors’ was among the biggest winners, taking Outstanding Production Design for a Variety or Reality Series, Outstanding Cinematography for a Reality Program, Outstanding Picture Editing for a Structured Reality or Competition Program, Outstanding Directing for a Reality Program and Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program for Alan Cumming.

It also won Outstanding Production Design for a Variety or Reality Series for ‘The Black Banquet’.

The Bad Bunny-led Super Bowl production won Outstanding Music Direction, Outstanding Choreography for Variety or Reality Programming, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special, Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction for a Special, Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork for a Special, Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special and Outstanding Variety Special (Live).

‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ won Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series, Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming (Segment), Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction for a Series, Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork for a Series and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series.

Other major winners included ‘The Muppet Show’, which won Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special, Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special, Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming and Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded).

‘Love On The Spectrum’ won Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program, Outstanding Picture Editing for an Unstructured Reality Program and Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program.

In nonfiction, ‘My Mom Jayne: A Film By Mariska Hargitay’ won Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special and Outstanding Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program, while ‘Ocean With David Attenborough’ won Outstanding Cinematography for a Nonfiction Program and Outstanding Sound Editing for a Nonfiction or Reality Program.

‘Mr. Scorsese’ won Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series, and ‘Tucci in Italy’ won Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special.

Other winners listed by the Academy included Desi Lydic, who won Outstanding Performer in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for ‘The Daily Show: Desi Lydic Foxsplains’, and Octavia Spencer, who won Outstanding Narrator for ‘Lost Women Of Alaska’.

Among the remaining Night One winners were ‘Uncanny Alley: A New Day VRChat’ for Outstanding Emerging Media Program; ‘Crafting Crimes’ for Outstanding Innovation in Emerging Media Programming; ‘Inside the Pitt’ for Outstanding Short Form Nonfiction or Reality Series; ‘Colbert Before Air’ for Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama or Variety Series.

‘I’m Not Remarkable – Apple’ for Outstanding Commercial; ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ for Outstanding Hairstyling; ‘Saturday Night Live’ for Outstanding Makeup; ‘The Masked Singer’ and ‘The Traitors’ for Outstanding Costumes.

‘The Daily Show Presents: Jordan Klepper Fingers The Pulse: Give The Man A Prize’ was awarded for Outstanding Writing for a Nonfiction Program; ‘Welcome To Wrexham’ for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Reality Program; ‘Billy Joel: And So It Goes’ for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Nonfiction Program; ‘Sean Combs: The Reckoning’ for Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program; ‘The Librarians’ for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking; ‘Antiques Roadshow’ for Outstanding Structured Reality Program; and ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ and ‘The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny’ in additional lighting, technical and directing categories. ‘The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny’ finished Night One with seven awards, according to the Academy’s list.
