The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India and Singapore’s Info-communications Media Development Authority or IMDA have signed a pact to strengthen cooperation in telecommunications and broadcasting regulation.
According to an official Indian government statement, a Letter of Intent was signed in Singapore yesterday on the sidelines of the 4th India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR).
TRAI Secretary Harinder Kumar and IMDA Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Director-General Aileen Chia signed and exchanged the LoI.
The exchange took place in the presence of India’s Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister for External Affairs S. Jaishankar, Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada, along with their Singaporean counterparts and senior officials.
The Singaporean delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry (Trade) Gan Kim Yong.
Under the collaboration, TRAI and IMDA will work together to exchange knowledge, information, expertise and regulatory experience in the fields of telecommunications and broadcasting.
The cooperation will cover areas such as radio spectrum management, telecommunications market regulation, consumer protection, technical innovation and international cooperation, particularly within the framework of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The agreement will provide a framework for continued engagement between the two regulatory authorities and help them share regulatory knowledge, experience and best practices.
The signing of the pact is expected to further strengthen regulatory cooperation between India and Singapore as the telecommunications and digital sectors continue to evolve. It will also contribute to strengthening the broader India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
