New Delhi, 17-Aug-2026, By IBW Team

July

India’s domestic box office grossed Rs. 1,582 crore from films released in July 2026, making it the second-best month of the year so far, with international cinema and major Tamil releases driving the surge.

According to Ormax Media’s ‘The India Box Office Report: July 2026’‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ was the month’s top-grossing film, recording Rs. 630 crore, including projected future collections. The film also became the highest-grossing International film ever in India, overtaking ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’.

It is now the second-highest-grossing film in India in 2026, behind ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’. (https://www.ormaxmedia.com/insights/stories/the-india-box-office-report-july-2026.html)

Together with ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, the four films accounted for 81 percent of July’s total gross collections, with ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ alone contributing 40 percent.

The strong July performance has lifted the cumulative domestic box office for films released between January and July 2026 to Rs. 8,147 crore, 13 percent higher than the corresponding period in 2025, the Ormax study stressed.

International cinema has emerged as a particularly strong growth driver. Its cumulative box office in 2026 has crossed Rs. 1,424 crore, putting the year on course to become its best ever at the Indian box office.

The current record is held by 2019, when international films grossed Rs. 1,595 crore.

July also marked a significant shift in the language mix. For the first time in 2026, Hindi cinema’s share of the Indian box office fell below 40 percent, while international cinema reached a record-high 17 percent share.

Ormax noted that International cinema had a 15 percent share in 2019, with the performance of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to determine whether the 2026 record can be surpassed by year-end.

The Ormax report uses Gross Box Office as its unified measure, combining collections across languages for films released in multiple languages. For films still running when the report was prepared, the figures include estimates based on the latest available trends and may be updated in subsequent reports. (Charts courtesy the Ormax Media report)
