‘Operation Safed Sagar’ contribution to Indian economy: $24mn+

Operation Safed Sagar’ generated more than US$24 million (around Rs. 215 crore) in economic impact for India during its production .The company said the series is its largest production in India to date and supported hundreds of local businesses while creating employment opportunities across multiple cities.

The announcement was made by Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos at the world premiere of ‘Operation Safed Sagar’ in New Delhi. The event also marked Netflix’s 10 years in India.

According to Netflix ,the series was filmed over 115 days across 11 Indian cities, including New Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Patiala, Gwalior, Bikaner, Gurugram, Noida, Manali and Keylang. The production supported more than 850 local businesses, employed over 200 cast and crew members, and created work for nearly 4,000 people every day during filming.

Netflix also partnered with 15 Indian VFX studios for the project. Around 1,200 VFX artists worked on nearly 50 minutes of visual effects, contributing more than US$5 million (around Rs 49 crore) to the Indian economy.

Speaking at the premiere, Ted Sarandos said every Netflix production creates opportunities beyond entertainment by supporting local businesses, creating jobs and helping Indian talent reach global audiences. He said ‘Operation Safed Sagar’ is a strong example of Netflix’s positive economic impact in India.

The premiere was attended by Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, senior officers from the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, veterans, members of the Indian Air Force’s Golden Arrows Squadron, and the cast and creators of the series.

Inspired by the Indian Air Force’s role during the 1999 Kargil War, ‘Operation Safed Sagar’ premiered on Netflix on August 7. Netflix said the project highlights India’s growing strength in film production while supporting local talent, businesses and the country’s creative economy.
