Zee Music expands in South India with major music rights deals

Zee Music Company has announced a major expansion in South India as it continues its journey to become a pan-India music label.

According to a Zee Music Company’s official Instagram post yesterday, the company has acquired the music rights for several upcoming films across Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada, strengthening its multilingual music catalogue.

One of the biggest additions is the Malayalam film ‘I’M GAME’, starring Dulquer Salmaan, Samyuktha Viswanathan, Mysskin, Kathir, Antony Varghese and Parth Tiwari. Directed by Nahas Hidayath.

The film features music by Jakes Bejoy. Zee Music said its expansion in the South gained momentum after the success of the Malayalam film ‘Balan: The Boy’.

The company has also acquired the music rights for several Telugu films, including ‘Vikramarka’, ‘Pallaburusu’, ‘Happy Journey’, ‘Mega 158’, ‘NBK 111’, ‘Kanaka Durga’ and ‘VenkyAnil5’. Its Malayalam lineup also includes ‘Credit Score’, while the Kannada slate features ‘Birbal: Case 2’, ‘Vibhrama’ and ‘Mangala Gowri’.

In Tamil, Zee Music has secured the music rights for ‘Slumdog: 33 Temple Road’, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Tabu.

Zee Music has also acquired the music rights for the multilingual film ‘Toxic’, starring Yash, in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. Beyond films, the company has partnered with ZEE5 Malayalam’s upcoming hip-hop reality show ‘Kerala Underground’ and secured its music rights, including the recently released promotional anthem.

Speaking about the expansion, Sujal Parekh, Chief Business Officer, Zee Music Company, said the partnership with Wayfarer Films for ‘I’M GAME’ is another important step in the company’s pan-India growth strategy.

He added that the company looks forward to bringing quality music from talented composers to audiences across different languages.

The newly acquired films and music projects are scheduled to release this year and in 2027. With an expanding catalogue across Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Punjabi, Gujarati, devotional and other genres.

Zee Music Company aims to strengthen its position as one of India’s fastest-growing multilingual music labels.
