AIDCF withdraws challenge to TV ratings policy

The All India Digital Cable Federation (AIDCF) has withdrawn its case against the Central government’s Television Ratings Policy, 2026, according to a report by The Economic Times today.

The move comes after the Kerala High Court recently gave interim support to the government’s decision to remove ‘landing page’ viewership from TV ratings.

AIDCF had challenged the new policy, saying that removing landing page viewership from TV ratings could affect cable operators and reduce their business.

However, after the High Court’s order, the Federation decided to withdraw its petition, the ET report indicated.

The new Television Ratings Policy, 2026 aims to make TV audience measurement more fair and transparent.

Under the policy, TV ratings will no longer include viewers who automatically land on a channel when they switch on their television—- the landing page or the page a viewer sees first when the TV and set-top box are switched on .

The new rules also allow audience measurement across cable TV, DTH, OTT platforms and connected TVs, while increasing the number of homes where TV viewership is tracked.

Even though the legal challenge has been withdrawn, TV ratings have not started yet under the new system.

The Minister of State for I&B L. Murugan last week informed Rajya Sabha, in reply to a question, that no new agency had registered with the government under the new policy.

At present, the cable and DTH audiences are mapped by BARC India, which does not track digital viewership.
