The Michael Jackson biopic ‘Michael’, starring the late singer’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, has become the first biographical film to cross the USD 1 billion mark at the worldwide box office.
According to a PTI report, the film has earned USD 1.001 billion globally since its theatrical release on April 24. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the filmmaker behind ‘Training Day’ and ‘The Equalizer’ franchise, the film is distributed worldwide by Lionsgate and Universal Pictures.
‘Michael’ has collected USD 629.8 million from international markets and USD 371.8 million in North America. The combined earnings have taken the film past the USD 1 billion milestone, making it the first biopic to achieve the feat.
The film chronicles the life and career of Michael Jackson, one of the most influential music artists in history, who was popularly known as the King of Pop. Jaafar Jackson, making his feature film debut, plays the legendary singer and has drawn attention for portraying his uncle on the big screen.
The film’s strong box office performance reflects the enduring global popularity of Michael Jackson’s music and legacy. Audiences across international markets have helped drive the film’s success, making it one of the highest-grossing releases of the year.
With this achievement, ‘Michael’ has created a new record for biographical films at the global box office, setting a benchmark for future releases in the genre.
