Sony BBC Earth has announced the premiere of ‘Kingdom’, a six-part wildlife series that explores the lives of some of Africa’s most iconic predators in Zambia’s Luangwa Valley. Narrated by David Attenborough, the series will premiere on July 20 and air Monday to Saturday at 1 pm and 9 pm.
According to a Sony BBC Earth press release, ‘Kingdom’ follows the emotional and dramatic journeys of four animal families over four years, offering an intimate portrayal of survival, rivalry and resilience in one of Africa’s most renowned wildlife habitats.
Set in Zambia’s Luangwa Valley, the documentary captures the interconnected lives of lions, leopards, wild dogs and hyenas as they battle for territory, protect their young and struggle for dominance in an unforgiving natural environment.
The series centres on a mother leopard raising her cubs amid constant danger, while a determined wild dog queen rises to leadership against overwhelming odds. It also follows a hyena clan engaged in fierce power struggles that reveal not only aggression but also moments of loyalty and compassion. Alongside these stories is a lioness leading an inexperienced pride as they attempt to reclaim the dominance once held by their ancestors in the valley.
Filmed over a period of four years, ‘Kingdom’ combines cinematic visuals with close-up access to the lives of its animal protagonists, presenting the raw emotion, intelligence and instinct that shape life in the wild. The series aims to blur the boundaries between traditional wildlife documentaries and character-driven drama through immersive storytelling.
The spectacular landscapes of Zambia’s Luangwa Valley provide the backdrop to the narrative, highlighting one of Africa’s richest ecosystems and offering viewers an in-depth look at the complex relationships that exist within the animal kingdom.
Sony BBC Earth said the series continues its commitment to bringing globally acclaimed factual programming to Indian audiences. Over the years, the channel has showcased documentaries that celebrate the planet’s biodiversity, natural wonders and wildlife through compelling storytelling and high-quality cinematography.
‘Kingdom’ will premiere on Sony BBC Earth on July 20 and will be telecast from Monday to Saturday at 1 pm and 9 pm.
