Shashi Shekhar Vempati, Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has been honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri award one of India’s highest civilian honours.
According to a PIB press release, the award has been given in recognition of his valuable contributions in the fields of public service, technology, media, and nation building. Vempati has made significant contributions through his work in technology-driven initiatives and the development of India’s digital ecosystem.
An alumnus of IIT Bombay, Shashi Shekhar Vempati completed his B.Tech in chemical engineering in 1995. He has built a successful career by combining his expertise in technology with public service and policy-related work.
He has also served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Prasar Bharati, India’s public broadcasting organisation, where he worked towards strengthening broadcasting systems and promoting innovation in the media sector.
Vempati is also the Co-founder of DeepTech for Bharat Foundation, an initiative focused on encouraging technology and innovation for national development.
The Padma Shri honour recognises his long-standing efforts and achievements in using technology, innovation, and leadership to contribute to society and the country.
