Instagram has expanded its TV app to Samsung Smart TVs, marking a bigger push into the living room entertainment space. the app now supports Samsung TV models from 2020 and newer, and is currently available only in the United States. this rollout builds on its existing presence on Amazon Fire TV and Google TV devices.
Along with this expansion, Instagram is testing several new features designed for larger screens and shared viewing experiences. these updates aim to make watching videos on TV more interactive and social.
According to Meta , one of the key features being tested is interest-based channels, which group videos into categories such as sports, comedy, and creator content. this makes it easier for users to discover content based on what they like and enjoy watching together with others.
Instagram is also introducing the ability to cast Reels from mobile phones to TV devices, including saved collections. this feature is currently supported on Google TV and Fire TV, allowing users to instantly share short videos on a bigger screen.
In addition, Instagram is bringing stories to television screens, allowing users to view updates from friends and creators in a more comfortable, full-screen experience. the platform is also testing a dedicated section for horizontal videos, optimized specifically for TV viewing.
These changes reflect a shift in user behavior, where television is increasingly becoming a shared social experience rather than just a solo viewing device. the company is now exploring more TV focused formats, including longer videos, episodic series, and live interactive streams.
Instagram says it will continue improving the TV app based on user feedback and creator input, as it works to expand how social video content is experienced beyond mobile devices
