Following the much-talked-about title reveal, ZEE5 Global, in collaboration with PRK Productions, has released a captivating teaser for the upcoming Kannada original ‘Maarigallu’, narrated by actor Dhananjaya.
The teaser took fans by surprise as the late Puneeth Rajkumar appeared in a regal avatar as Mayura Sharma, the founder of the Kadamba dynasty and Karnataka’s first king a moment that turned the video into a heartfelt celebration of legacy, culture, and pride.
Set in Sirsi during the 1990s, the story begins when an ancient clue to a long-lost Kadamba-era treasure resurfaces. What starts as a pursuit of hope soon spirals into a haunting journey where greed, faith, and destiny intertwine, blurring the line between divine intervention and human folly. The series is slated to premiere on October 31 exclusively on ZEE5 Global.
The project holds deep emotional significance for PRK Productions and Puneeth Rajkumar’s family. The series, produced by Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar, is written and directed by Devraj Poojary, with cinematography by S.K. Rao, music by L.V. Muthu and L.V. Ganesh, and sound design by Ravi Hiremat. The ensemble cast includes Rangayana Raghu, Gopal Krishna Deshpande, Praveen Tej, Ninaad Hrithsa, Prashanth Siddi, and A.S. Suraj, many of whom are making their web series debuts.
According to a press release from ZEE5 Global, the show brings to life a blend of divine mystery, folklore, and human emotion rooted in Karnataka’s rich cultural heritage.
Producer Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar said, “Maarigallu is very special at PRK Productions because it reflects one of Appu’s dreams. Puneeth always wanted to take our tales into the web series space — stories rooted in our land, yet universal in emotion. With Maarigallu, we’ve tried to bring that vision alive, a narrative that carries mystery, devotion, and the cultural essence of Karnataka.”
Actor Rangayana Raghu added, “It’s rare to find a story that combines divine suspense with deep emotional and cultural roots. Every character in Maarigallu has shades of humanity and conflict, which makes it very real and relatable. I’m sure audiences will enjoy the mystery, humour, and the heartbeat of Karnataka that runs through this story.”
Deepak Sriramulu, Business Head – Kannada, ZEE5, noted, “Like our promise, ‘namma bhashe namma kathaegalu,’ Maarigallu is unlike anything we’ve done before. It’s a divine folklore thriller that brings alive Karnataka’s legends in a mysterious and emotional way. The quest for the lost Kadamba treasure gives the series a unique edge, and we are excited for audiences to experience this journey with us.”
Beyond its thrilling premise, ‘Maarigallu’ stands as a tribute to Puneeth Rajkumar’s vision of creating impactful Kannada originals for the digital space. With this release, ZEE5 Global and PRK Productions honour his legacy blending folklore, mystery, and faith into a story that’s both rooted and timeless.
‘Maarigallu’ premieres on October 31, exclusively on ZEE5 Global.
