Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (ZEEL), one of India’s foremost content and technology giants, has announced the launch of ‘ZEE WRITERS ROOM’, a first-of-its-kind national initiative aimed at identifying, mentoring, and nurturing emerging screenwriting talent from across the country.
Aligned with the brand’s philosophy, ‘Yours Truly, Z’, this landmark movement is set to reimagine the way stories are discovered and shaped in the Indian entertainment industry.
According to a press release shared by the company, ‘ZEE WRITERS ROOM’ is not just a talent hunt—it’s a cultural and creative commitment to discover voices from the grassroots and elevate them to mainstream platforms. The initiative will offer selected writers the rare opportunity to create narratives for Zee’s expansive content universe across television, digital, and film formats.
The campaign, which launched with a vibrant brand film in seven Indian languages, is being rolled out across 80 cities and 32 event centres. With a singular vision of “STORIES. SCRIPTS. SCREENS.”, ‘ZEE WRITERS ROOM’ is calling out to fresh storytellers from Hindi, Marathi, Bangla, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam-speaking regions.
Raghavendra Hunsur, Chief Creative Officer, ZEEL, shared, “This isn’t a contest — it’s a commitment. As one of India’s largest storytellers, it’s our duty to nurture the next wave of writing talent. ‘ZEE WRITERS ROOM’ is a space for honest voices, raw emotions, and bold ideas. Our aim is to equip these writers not only with tools and mentorship, but with belief — the belief that their stories can become tomorrow’s legacy.”
Kartik Mahadev, Chief Marketing Officer, ZEEL, added, “We’re deepening our brand promise by creating a community of storytellers who can deliver original and differentiated narratives. ‘ZEE WRITERS ROOM’ is an ecosystem for writing excellence — and a launchpad for the writers of tomorrow.”
Samrat Ghosh, Chief Cluster Officer – East, North, Premium Cluster, ZEEL, emphasised Bengal’s creative spirit, saying, “This region has a proud legacy of literature and cinema. ‘ZEE WRITERS ROOM’ will help Bengali storytellers carry that legacy forward in a modern, structured storytelling space.”
Echoing the regional focus, Siju Prabhakaran, Chief Cluster Officer – South & West, ZEEL, noted, “The South and West are bursting with narrative energy. This initiative will channel that passion into content fit for TV, OTT, and cinema.”
Not aimed at teaching screenwriting fundamentals, the initiative is focused on refining self-taught or semi-trained storytellers—those who have shown spark through digital work, college fests, or writing clubs but haven’t yet broken into the mainstream.
The structure includes a written selection test, shortlisting based on merit, interviews with an industry panel, and finally, onboarding into the ‘ZEE WRITERS ROOM’, where 100 selected writers (70 new, 30 emerging experts) will work under professional guidance. Together, they will form a collaborative story engine developing ideas, character arcs, and screenplays for Zee’s network.
Interested writers can apply through the official website www.zeewritersroom.com, and take the first step towards shaping the stories of tomorrow.
