YouTube yesterday announced the rollout of ‘Search profiles’, a new feature designed to give creators an official and verified presence on Google Search by bringing their online identities into a single customizable profile.
The initiative enables eligible creators to consolidate their social media accounts, websites, posts and other key links on one shareable page, making it easier for audiences, collaborators and brands to find accurate and up-to-date information about them through Google Search and Discover, YouTube said in a statement.
According to YouTube, Search profiles are intended to help creators “own their official presence” on Google Search and unify their digital footprint. The profiles can be customized with elements such as a biography, profile image, featured videos and important links that reflect a creator’s personal brand.
The company said eligible creators with a substantial following on YouTube or other social and video platforms may be able to trigger or enhance a Google Knowledge Panel after setting up a profile. This would provide a professional visual summary when users search for a creator’s name.
YouTube said the new profiles are verified and designed to centralize a creator’s online presence, helping fans and business partners access reliable information from a single source.
Creators can check their eligibility and create a profile through Google’s dedicated creator profile platform, YouTube added.
European Creator Consultation: Meanwhile, on June 3, YouTube said it was launching the European Creator Consultation. It described it as “a landmark survey” to hear from creators across all 27 EU member states.
The goal is to provide European policy-makers with the data-driven insights they need to support this crucial segment of Europe’s creative industries.
This initiative follows a successful consultation in the UK, where creator feedback became a powerful catalyst for meaningful action. The success in the UK showed that creating a bridge between creators and policymakers benefits the entire ecosystem, YouTube said.
