YouTube is piloting a new feature called ‘Notes’ aimed at enhancing video context and clarifying information to counteract misinformation on the platform. This initiative responds to the increasing prevalence of misleading content, particularly that created with generative AI.
‘Notes’ will appear as small boxes beneath videos, providing viewers with additional context. These Notes can indicate if a video is a parody of a reviewed product and has an updated version, or if old footage is being presented as a current event.
YouTube anticipates this feature will be particularly effective in mitigating the spread of misinformation, The Economic Times reported.
During the initial testing phase, a select group of users with YouTube channels in good standing will be invited to write notes. Third-party evaluators will assess the helpfulness and accuracy of these notes to train YouTube‘s systems. In the coming weeks, viewers in the U.S. will begin seeing these notes appear under videos.
