Women’s World Cup viewership hits record 446 million on JioHotstar

Women’s cricket in India has reached a defining moment. The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup India 2025 final, which saw Team India clinch their first-ever World Cup title, has drawn record-breaking viewership figures — matching the men’s T20 World Cup in digital numbers for the very first time.

According to a report by The Economic Times, citing data shared by JioStar on Friday, the championship clash attracted an unprecedented 185 million viewers on JioHotstar, equalling the record set by the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 final. Overall, the tournament achieved a total reach of 446 million viewers, surpassing the combined digital audience of the last three ICC Women’s World Cups.

This surge signals more than just impressive numbers — it reflects a cultural transformation in how women’s sport is consumed and celebrated across the country. The final, which saw Harmanpreet Kaur’s side become the first Asian team to lift the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, recorded a peak concurrency of 21 million viewers, underlining the scale of national engagement.

The viewership boom extended beyond mobile devices, as a record 92 million viewers tuned in via Connected TV (CTV). The number matches the CTV audience for both the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 final and the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup final — a clear indicator that Indian audiences are increasingly embracing large-screen digital viewing, a trend that was once dominated by men’s cricket.

Commenting on the milestone, Ishan Chatterjee, CEO – Sports, JioStar, said, “The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup India 2025 has reaffirmed the growing stature of women’s cricket in India. The exceptional quality of cricket on display, especially the Indian team’s incredible performance, has driven record-breaking viewership and attracted a larger, more passionate fan base than ever before. This marks an important shift for women’s cricket — it is no longer just being watched; it is being celebrated by millions.”

He further credited the ICC, BCCI, players, fans, and brands for collectively driving the sport’s popularity, noting that the success of the tournament has inspired a new generation of fans, athletes, and sponsors to rally behind women’s cricket.

With India’s World Cup triumph, anticipation is already building for the upcoming TATA Women’s Premier League (WPL) in January 2026. As digital platforms continue to redefine sports consumption in India, the 2025 Women’s World Cup will be remembered as the moment when women’s cricket not only equalled the men’s game in viewership — but also set a new benchmark for what’s possible in the world of sport.
