Meta-owned WhatsApp is gearing up to introduce a new ‘favourite contacts filter’ feature, aiming to provide users with increased control and efficiency in their messaging experience.
The feature, spotted by IANS, is set to debut on WhatsApp Web in an upcoming update.
According to the report, the new feature will enable users to designate favourite contacts, allowing for manual selection and easy access through a dedicated filter. This enhancement allows users to prioritize key conversations, streamlining communication with frequently interacted contacts.
The introduction of ‘favourite contacts’ not only simplifies the outreach to frequently contacted users but also introduces a layer of customization, enhancing the overall messaging experience to align with individual preferences.
Simultaneously, WhatsApp is reportedly gearing up to facilitate third-party messaging apps on its platform, ahead of the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) set to take effect in March.
In a statement to Wired, Dick Brouwer, an engineering director at WhatsApp, expressed the company’s readiness to offer interoperability on the platform, emphasizing the challenge of maintaining the balance between ease of interoperability and preserving WhatsApp’s privacy, security, and integrity standards.
As WhatsApp continues to evolve its features, these updates reflect a commitment to providing users with more control and personalization options within the widely-used messaging platform.
