WBD unveils in India ‘Digger’s new poster & Tom Cruise looks

Following the trailer that introduced audiences to Tom Cruise as they had never seen him before, Warner Bros. India unveiled a new poster of the movie ‘Digger’ offering another glimpse at his striking transformation into the film’s larger-than-life protagonist.

Almost unrecognisable in appearance and sporting a distinct Southern accent, Cruise’s portrayal of Digger Rockwell has already become a talking point among fans and critics, who have praised the actor’s unexpected turn in the film.

According to a WBD India press release, with the film’s final trailer set to arrive today, the new poster further builds anticipation around Cruise’s most unpredictable role yet.

Directed by the legendary filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu, the film promises a world where power, ego and survival collide, and for Digger, the stakes are simple: ‘Digg or Die’.
‘Digger’ follows Digger Rockwell, an oil baron whose immense power and ambition put him at the centre of an ecological crisis that threatens to escalate into a global catastrophe.

With the world closing in and his empire at stake, Cruise’s character becomes convinced that he is the only man capable of saving humanity. What follows is a darkly comic, increasingly chaotic race against time, as a man accustomed to having the answers finds himself confronting consequences he may no longer be able to control.Cruise described the process of stepping into the shoes of Digger Rockwell as “a real leap into the unknown,” and a role that demanded that he draw from his entire journey as an actor.

“It took all of my knowledge, from all of the years of every film I made, to be able to play this character and fulfil the ambition of this movie,” he said.

For director Iñárritu, the film’s greatest disaster isn’t an external force but humanity itself.

“The disaster isn’t a comet or an earthquake, or an alien invasion. The disaster is us. “Most disaster movies ask, ‘What if something terrible happened to humanity?’ Our question was much simpler: ‘What if humanity happened to humanity’?” Iñárritu articulates.

Cruise stars in the title role alongside Oscar winner Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Oscar nominee Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg and Oscar nominee Jesse Plemons. Robert John Burke, Emma D’Arcy, Burn Gorman and Sophie Wilde also star.
Iñárritu directed from a screenplay by himself and Oscar winners Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman, from a story by Iñárritu and Berman.

The film is produced by Iñárritu, Oscar nominee Mary Parent, Cruise and Michael Sharp, and executive produced by Joshua Grode, Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolás Giacobone, Jez Butterworth and Emmanuel Lubezki.
Joining Iñárritu behind the camera are previous collaborators including Oscar-winning director of photography Emmanuel Lubezki; editors Conor O’Neill and Oscar winner Stephen Mirrione; Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline West; Oscar-winning makeup and hair designer Alessandro Bertolazzi and Oscar-nominated casting director Francine Maisler.

‘Digger’ has been shot entirely in VistaVision and will be released in Cinemas and IMAX across India on October 2. It is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
