WAVES OTT, the digital streaming platform of Prasar Bharati, has crossed one crore (10 million) registered users, achieving the milestone less than two years after its launch in November 2024, according to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB).
The platform, according to an official statement yesterday, now offers more than 24,000 content titles and over 15,000 hours of programming spanning entertainment, news, education, culture, spirituality and public service content.
It also provides access to more than 140 live television channels, over 200 radio services, live event streaming, educational programming through PM eVidya channels, digital editions of publications such as ‘Yojana’, ‘Kurukshetra’ and ‘Rozgar Samachar’, devotional streams from prominent temples and archival content from national broadcaster Prasar Bharati.
According to the release, the milestone reflects growing adoption of indigenous digital platforms and marks a significant step in the expansion of India’s public digital media ecosystem, offering audiences trusted, inclusive and diverse content in India and overseas.
WAVES OTT is available across mobile devices, the web and connected television platforms, and currently reaches audiences in more than 130 countries. The service offers content in multiple Indian languages and provides free access to a broad range of public-interest and entertainment programming.
Prasar Bharati said the achievement underlines the increasing relevance of digital public service media and validates its vision of creating a single destination that brings together television, radio, on-demand content, education, culture and heritage on one platform.
The platform’s growth has been attributed to a steady expansion of content offerings, digital partnerships, wider device availability and improvements in user experience. Recent additions including devotional live streams, educational content, digital publications, archival collections and live event coverage have further strengthened audience engagement, the release said.
With more than one crore registered users and over 1.4 crore downloads, WAVES OTT is now focusing on its next phase of expansion through additional content partnerships, broader distribution across devices and platforms, and stronger regional and educational offerings.
The platform has set a target of reaching two crore or 20 million registered users by March 2027, while positioning itself as a digital showcase for India’s culture, knowledge, heritage and creativity.
