Yash Raj Films’ highly anticipated spy thriller ‘War 2’ is set to hit theatres globally in IMAX, delivering a larger-than-life cinematic experience to audiences across the world. Starring Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr. in lead roles, the film is the latest addition to the YRF Spy Universe and is being helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Ayan Mukerji.
According to The Economic Times report, the film’s IMAX release has been locked in as part of Yash Raj Films’ strategy to scale up its blockbuster franchise and offer viewers an immersive spectacle. Following the massive success of its predecessor War (2019), this sequel will bring together high-octane action sequences, global espionage, and an intense face-off between its lead characters — all captured in a format designed for maximum visual impact.
“Releasing War 2 in IMAX is a reflection of the film’s scale and ambition,” a source close to the production said. “It’s one of the most awaited titles from the YRF Spy Universe and the format will elevate the experience for fans around the world.”
YRF’s spy universe already includes hits like ‘Ek Tha Tige’r, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, ‘War’, and ‘Pathaan’. With Ayan Mukerji stepping into the action-thriller space after his success with ‘Brahmastra’, expectations are high for War 2, which is being touted as one of the most ambitious crossover action films in recent times.
The IMAX release strategy also underlines the growing trend of Indian films expanding their global footprint with premium formats and cross-border casting. With Hrithik Roshan reprising his role as Kabir and NTR Jr. marking his Bollywood action debut, the film is expected to appeal to audiences across regions and languages.
‘War 2’ is currently in production and is slated for a 2025 release.
