Vizag Comic Con concluded its first edition in Visakhapatnam on October 11, attracting more than 12,000 visitors over two days. Presented by Maruti Suzuki and powered by Crunchyroll, the event was held on October 10 and 11 at the Kalam Convention Centre, AMTZ Campus.
According to a Comic Con India press release yesterday, the two-day event brought together fans of comics, anime, gaming and cosplay. Visitors explored comics and manga, met creators, browsed merchandise and participated in activities celebrating pop culture.
The event featured an Artist Alley, panel discussions, creator interactions, cosplay showcases and live entertainment. Gaming streamer Munna Bhai Gaming also attended the event.
Shefali Johnson, CEO of Comic Con India, said the city welcomed the event warmly. She highlighted the mix of local culture and fandom, including Indian comics and artwork at Artist Alley and a performance by Telugu hip-hop artist Roll Rida. She also noted the participation of young fans and families.
The event brought together Indian comic creators, writers, artists and publishers, allowing visitors to discover new comic titles, original artwork and stories. The Comic Con Creators’ Jam featured Roshan from Lilorosh, Sameera Maruvada from Salt and Sambar, Ashwin Kalmane from Bullseye Press and Bijoy Raveendran from Yali Dream Creations. The Comic Con Community Spotlight also featured The Coastal Realms Guild: The Geek Feud!, celebrating local fandom communities.
Visitors explored several interactive experiences, including the VR Fun Zone at the NODWIN Gaming Arena, virtual basketball and archery activities by X-Wall, and a racing simulation at Logitech’s Race For Real zone. Maruti Suzuki hosted an interactive brand experience, while Crunchyroll organised trivia challenges for fans.
Akshat Rathee, Co-founder and Managing Director of NODWIN Gaming, said bringing Comic Con to Vizag for the first time was an important step in taking pop-culture experiences to audiences across India. He added that the response reflected growing interest in such events beyond major metropolitan cities.
Cosplay was another major attraction, with fans dressing up as their favourite characters in elaborate costumes and makeup. Visitors admired each other’s work, exchanged tips and posed for photographs. The event also welcomed children from a local NGO, giving them an opportunity to meet their favourite superheroes and enjoy the celebrations.
The main stage featured music, comedy and live performances throughout the weekend. Telugu hip-hop artist Roll Rida performed alongside C-SHOR, The 9TEEN and Fluteboxers. Stand-up comedians Gokul Kumar, Kumar Varun and Vivek Muralidharan also entertained visitors.
With its first edition now concluded, Comic Con India, a subsidiary of NODWIN Gaming, has added Vizag to its event calendar, expanding its presence in India’s growing pop-culture landscape.
