Ultra Media & Entertainment has unveiled ‘Khotachi Wadi – Ek Shaapit Vastu’, a new horror original that sets a notable precedent in India’s regional OTT space with a simultaneous multi-language and multi-platform release.
The supernatural web series will premiere on January 23, streaming in Marathi on Ultra Jhakaas and in Hindi on Ultra Play, with its trailer released on Monday.
As detailed in a press release, the launch marks a rare instance in the Indian OTT ecosystem where a single original story is dropped at the same time across language-first platforms. The strategy underlines Ultra Media’s effort to build a pan-Indian digital footprint while retaining a strong regional content focus.
Directed by Rajesh Chavan, ‘Khotachi Wadi – Ek Shaapit Vastu’ is set against the atmospheric backdrop of the Konkan region. The story follows Sanika, a young woman who becomes entangled in the sinister history of an old mansion haunted by Dharmasen, a restless spirit bound to the mortal world by his obsession with hidden treasure. As buried secrets resurface, the narrative unfolds into a tense tale of fear, mystery and survival.
Veteran actor Suhas Joshi leads the cast, supported by Sania Chaudhary, Abhinay Sawant, Roshan Vichare, Kashyap Parulekar and Nayan Jadhav, adding depth to the chilling storyline.
Commenting on the release, Sushilkumar Agrawal, CEO, Ultra Media & Entertainment, said the series reflects the company’s vision of allowing one story to travel seamlessly across audiences. He noted that the simultaneous launch reinforces Ultra Media’s commitment to a language-first yet pan-Indian OTT ecosystem.
The release also signals the next phase of Ultra Media’s digital growth strategy. While Ultra Play continues to cater to Hindi-speaking audiences, Ultra Jhakaas further strengthens its leadership in Marathi content, with the company focusing on regional originals and cross-language storytelling to expand its reach.
Ultra Play, the group’s Hindi-language OTT platform, offers over 5,000 hours of curated content across more than 1,800 titles, ranging from classic Hindi cinema to contemporary blockbusters, web series and dubbed South Indian films, aligned with its ‘Har Pal Filmy’ positioning. Ultra Jhakaas, meanwhile, remains India’s largest Marathi OTT platform, featuring over 2,000 Marathi titles across films, originals, theatre content, television shows and culturally rooted programming for audiences in India and the global Marathi diaspora.
