Toonz Media Group, a global leader in kids and family entertainment, has partnered with Gummybear International Inc. (GBI) to produce a full-length feature film based on the beloved Gummibär franchise. Titled ‘Gummibär and Friends: Operation Cotton Candy’, the 90-minute CGI-animated comedy adventure promises an action-packed, spy spoof storyline set to captivate audiences worldwide.
The film is a co-production between Toonz Media Group and GBI, with the former leading the production and working closely with GBI to bring the iconic green gummy bear to the big screen. This expansion of the Gummibär legacy aims to offer fans a thrilling new cinematic experience, a joint press release stated.
A stellar creative team is bringing this project to life and includes Robert Chandler, producer of ‘The Amazing Maurice’ and ‘The Canterville Ghost’, who is also creative producer; director Pete Dodd, known for his contributions to ‘Corpse Bride’, ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’, and ‘The Tale of Despereaux’, and Dan Berlinka, a multi-BAFTA-winning writer (‘The A-Lis’t, ‘Dixi’, ‘Brush Head’) who will craft the screenplay.
Chandler expressed his enthusiasm by stating, “Gummibär is so cinematic. He’s a disruptor with a heart of gold. The idea of putting Gummibär into a spy movie was too delicious to resist. He thinks he’s signing up to test new Cotton Candy flavours but instead gets caught in an impossible spy mission. Before anyone can stop him, he and his friends are the only ones standing between Earth and its colourful destruction.”
In ‘Operation Cotton Candy’, Gummibär unwittingly becomes part of a high-stakes espionage mission. With his martial artist friend Kala and science-savvy companion Harry, he must rely on his wits, courage, and charm to save the planet from an impending catastrophe. The film promises a blend of humor, action, and adventure, designed for viewers of all ages.
Christian Schneider, CEO of Gummybear International, and Jürgen Korduletsch, President of GBI, highlighted the collaboration, saying, “We’re excited to bring Gummibär and Friends to the big screen with Toonz. This project continues the successful partnership we established with the animated series, offering fans a chaotic yet entertaining journey.”
P. Jayakumar, CEO of Toonz Media Group, added,“Gummibär has generated a lasting global buzz like no other character. With Robert, Pete, and Dan leading the project, we are confident that this feature film will take the franchise to even greater heights.”
