Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman’s dark comedy ‘The Roses’ which explores the hilarious yet heartbreaking unraveling of a modern marriage is now heading to OTT.
The film, which opened to strong critical reviews and decent global box office returns, is set to premiere on JioHotstar in India on November 20, 2025.
The movie reimagines Warren Adler’s 1981 novel and the 1989 cult classic ‘The War of the Roses’, giving it a contemporary spin that connects with today’s audiences. In this version, Theo (Cumberbatch) and Ivy (Colman) appear to have it all — successful careers, loving children, and an enviable marriage. But beneath the polished exterior, their relationship begins to crack under the weight of ego, rivalry, and suppressed resentment.
What begins as a final attempt to rekindle their bond through couples therapy soon spirals into a darkly comic war of words and emotions. The film deftly combines humor and heartbreak, painting a brutally honest portrait of love, ambition, and the chaos that follows when two strong personalities collide.
Directed by Jay Roach, the film earned approximately USD 51.21 million worldwide, with the Indian box office contributing around USD 0.222 million.
Despite its moderate theatrical run, ‘The Roses’ found appreciation for its sharp performances, screenplay, and emotional depth making its OTT debut one of the most anticipated releases this November.
