Netflix has officially announced yesterday that its hit political drama ‘The Diplomat’, starring Keri Russell, will return for its third season on October 16, confirming the comeback of Russell’s character, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat navigating turbulent waters both in her professional and personal life.
According to PTI, the upcoming season will continue to explore Wyler’s journey as she lands in a high-profile role she isn’t entirely suited for, in the middle of an international crisis — with far-reaching consequences for her marriage and her political ambitions.
Debora Cahn, who serves as showrunner, creator, and executive producer, hinted at what’s in store, noting that the new season “flips the chessboard,” promising unexpected turns and heightened stakes for audiences.
The series, which has gained a strong following since its debut, has been praised for blending political intrigue with sharp character-driven storytelling. Season 3 is expected to deepen those themes while keeping viewers on edge with its signature suspense and drama.
According to some media reports, Netflix shared a 50-second teaser through its official social media accounts, writing, “Keri Russell. Rufus Sewell. Allison Janney. Bradley Whitford. The Diplomat returns OCTOBER 16.”
The new season of the show will have eight episodes, unlike the previous six-eposde season.
