Actor Sydney Sweeney is set to return to the psychological thriller space with ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’, the sequel to the 2025 film ‘The Housemaid’, which is scheduled to hit theatres on December 17, 2027. The film will also feature Kirsten Dunst in a key role, adding further weight to the project’s star cast.
According to a report by PTI from Los Angeles yesterday, which quoted an article from entertainment news outlet Variety, the sequel continues the story adapted from author Freida McFadden’s bestselling ‘Housemaid’ book series, which has gained a strong following for its gripping and twist-filled narrative. The upcoming installment is based on the second novel in the series and is expected to delve deeper into the dark psychological layers that defined the first film.
Directed by Paul Feig, known for films like ‘Bridesmaids’ and ‘A Simple Favor’, the sequel aims to build on the suspense-driven storytelling that resonated with audiences earlier. Sweeney will reprise her role as the housemaid, a character caught in a web of secrets, manipulation, and hidden motives, while Dunst’s involvement hints at an expanded narrative with new dynamics and conflicts.
The original film’s success and the popularity of McFadden’s novels have set high expectations for the sequel. With a strong creative team and an established fan base, ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ is shaping up to be a major addition to the psychological thriller genre upon its release in 2027.
