The much-anticipated period drama ‘Lahore 1947’, starring Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta in the lead roles, is slated for a theatrical release on August 13. Set against the backdrop of the Partition era, the film brings together a powerful cast and an experienced creative team to tell a story rooted in one of the most defining moments in the subcontinent’s history.
Produced by Aamir Khan under his banner Aamir Khan Productions, the film is directed by veteran filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi. The project also features Shabana Azmi in a key role, adding further weight to the ensemble. The makers announced the release date through an official press release, building anticipation among audiences for what is expected to be an emotionally charged cinematic experience.
Speaking about the film, Aamir Khan recalled the late actor Dharmendra, Sunny Deol’s father, who passed away in November 2025. Khan described ‘Lahore 1947’ as one of his most cherished scripts and spoke about his long-standing association with the story. The film holds special significance for him, not just creatively, but also emotionally, given his admiration for Dharmendra and his body of work.
‘Lahore 1947’ marks a notable collaboration between Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Santoshi, who have previously delivered acclaimed films together. With Sunny Deol stepping into a role set in the turbulent years around Independence and Preity Zinta returning to a strong, performance-driven narrative, the film is expected to blend intense drama with historical depth.
Scheduled to arrive close to Independence Day, ‘Lahore 1947’ positions itself as a timely release that reflects on the human cost of freedom, memory, and displacement, while bringing together some of Hindi cinema’s most respected names both in front of and behind the camera.
