Ahead of its debut on Sony Entertainment TV on January 27, the channel detailed how contestants can win big — up to Rs. 1 crore or Rs. 10 million — in the popular game show ‘Wheel of Fortune India’, which brings together the thrill of chance and the power of words in a fast-paced game that unfolds across four exciting rounds.
Designed to test speed, strategy, intelligence and sharp thinking, the Akshay Kumar-hosted is fast-paced formatted featuring bilingual puzzles in English, Hindi and Hinglish, aimed at delivering high-energy, mass-appeal entertainment, Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) stated in a press release.
According to the broadcaster, ‘Wheel of Fortune India’ will unfold across four rounds — Triple Toss-Up, Puzzle Round, Double Dhamaaka and the Bonus Round. Each episode will feature three contestants competing simultaneously, with cash prizes and rewards escalating through the rounds.
The opening Triple Toss-Up round requires contestants to solve word puzzles as letters appear automatically on the board, with the fastest correct response earning cash rewards. The contestant solving all three puzzles in this round sees their total doubled and gains the advantage of spinning the wheel first in the subsequent Puzzle Round.
In the Puzzle Round, players choose between spinning the wheel, buying vowels or solving the puzzle. The wheel features 24 wedges with varying cash values and risk elements such as losing a turn or wiping out round earnings. Vowels can be purchased for Rs. 20,000 each, while overall prizes on the show can go up to Rs. 1 crore, with high-stakes decisions shaping the gameplay.
The Double Dhamaaka round intensifies the competition with faster gameplay and a Prize Puzzle offering additional rewards. Contestants receive a mix of preset consonants and vowels before selecting additional letters and attempting to solve the puzzle within 15 seconds. The contestant with the highest cumulative winnings advances to the Bonus Round.
The final Bonus Round sees the leading contestant spin a bonus wheel containing prizes ranging from Rs. 1.5 lakh to Rs. 25 lakh or a brand-new car.
Sony said ‘Wheel of Fortune India’ adapts one of television’s most iconic formats — recognised by Guinness World Records — to Indian audiences, combining familiar gameplay mechanics with local linguistic diversity and star-driven appeal.
