In a bid to further strengthen its position in the Hindi movie broadcast space, Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has announced the launch of a brand-new channel, Sony MAX 1. Slated to go on air from May 1, 2025, the channel aims to deliver an exciting, all-encompassing movie-watching experience tailor-made for Indian families, celebrating their love for cinema across generations.
The network made the announcement today through an official press release, sharing details about the channel’s offering and positioning. Sony MAX 1 will be available on all major DTH and cable platforms and comes with a vibrant new tagline: “Filmon ka aisa chaska, jo dekhe hakka bakka”. True to its promise, the channel will bring together a curated mix of Bollywood hits, regional film favourites, cult classics and popular Hollywood titles dubbed in Hindi — all selected to appeal to viewers of different ages and preferences.
The new entrant will be housed under SPNI’s popular Hindi movies cluster, joining the ranks of Sony MAX, known for its blockbuster offerings, and Sony MAX 2, a channel that caters to fans of timeless classics. With Sony MAX 1, the network is taking a more curated approach — one that doesn’t just bank on star power or box-office numbers, but on storytelling and mass connect.
“Films have always held a special place in Indian homes — they’re more than just entertainment; they’re an emotion,” said Tushar Shah, Chief Marketing Officer and Business Head – Movies, Regional and Infotainment Channels at SPNI. “With Sony MAX 1, we are responding to the evolving expectations of viewers who crave variety, emotion, and a seamless experience. The channel is designed to deliver exactly that — it’s relevant, rooted in family values and packed with delight,” he added in the release.
What sets Sony MAX 1 apart is its dedication to catering to the entire household. From edge-of-the-seat action to warm-hearted family dramas and nostalgic old favourites, the programming aims to be both fresh and familiar. It is positioned not just as a movie channel, but as a space that mirrors the mood and spirit of everyday Indian homes — where multiple generations come together to watch, laugh, cry and cheer in front of the same screen.
The channel’s launch comes at a time when the Hindi movie genre remains one of the most consumed categories on television. By offering a more thoughtfully designed content line-up, Sony MAX 1 hopes to be the go-to destination for casual viewers and ardent cinephiles alike.
Sony Pictures Networks India, now operating under the corporate identity of Culver Max Entertainment Private Limited, is a major player in the Indian entertainment space.
