Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) is set to introduce Indian audiences to one of the world’s most iconic television game shows, ‘Wheel of Fortune’, marking the franchise’s debut in the country.
Celebrated globally as the most-watched entertainment show on American television by Variety and recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s most popular TV game show, the format now finds an Indian home with a star-powered edition hosted by Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar.
As per an SPNI press release, the Indian version of ‘Wheel of Fortune’ is being positioned as a high-energy, large-scale entertainment property, blending global IP strength with local flavour. The choice of Akshay Kumar as host adds significant star value, underlined by his consistent television appeal, with five of his satellite film premieres having crossed the 2.5+ TVR mark in recent years, highlighting his strong connect with viewers and advertisers alike.
Sony Pictures Networks India is preparing one of its biggest integrated media launches in recent times to ensure the show becomes a marquee event. Anchored across Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV, ‘Wheel of Fortune India’ will offer a unified cross-screen experience, combining mass reach on television with targeted digital engagement. This strategy is designed to allow brands to connect seamlessly with audiences across living rooms and mobile screens, delivering both scale and measurable impact.
Beyond being a format launch, the show is being positioned as a new benchmark in content and brand integration. With interactive features such as ‘Play Along’ on Sony LIV, the Indian edition aims to enhance viewer participation and establish itself as a prime-time blockbuster, while also emerging as a powerful advertising platform heading into 2026.
Highgate Entertainment, LLC has licensed the ‘Wheel of Fortune’ format to Sony Pictures Networks India, with Frames Production Company producing the Indian edition for the network.

Commenting on the launch, Nachiket Pantvaidya, Business Head, Sony Entertainment Television, said, “Sony Entertainment Television has long pioneered the reality format space in India, consistently introducing globally successful IPs that engage audiences at scale. With Wheel of Fortune, we’re adding another marquee global franchise to the portfolio, bringing high-energy entertainment to Indian homes. Anchored in our strategy across Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV, the show promises to create a powerful brand-building and engagement platform, offering advertisers unparalleled reach and impact across television and digital.”
Sharing his excitement, Akshay Kumar said, “Wheel of Fortune has been a beloved show for millions around the world, and I’m truly excited to bring its Indian edition to audiences here. Its multi-generational appeal and the thrill of puzzle-solving have made it a global favourite and I’m confident it will be immensely enjoyed by Indian audiences. With the combined reach of Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV, Wheel of Fortune India will engage viewers across platforms like never before.”
Viewers can look forward to more updates on ‘Wheel of Fortune India’, which will air exclusively on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV.
