Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ has collected over Rs 100 crore at the domestic box office, while mytho-horror film ‘Maa’, headlined by Kajol, netted Rs. 11.19 crore till now.
Directed by RS Prasanna, ‘Sitare…’ is produced by Aamir alongside Aparna Purohit and Ravi Bhagchandka. Billed as a spiritual sequel to the critically acclaimed movie ‘Taare Zameen Par’, it was released in theatres on June 20.
The film opened with Rs 10.7 crore nett at the domestic box office. The total box office collection stands at Rs 107.78 crore nett, according to a press release, a PTI report from New Delhi stated yesterday.
‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ follows the journey of a basketball coach (Aamir), who mentors ten differently-abled individuals. Alongside Aamir, the film also stars Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar.
Aamir’s ‘Taare Zameen Par’ released in 2007, starring Darsheel Safary alongside the actor. In the film, Aamir portrayed the role of a school teacher who helps Safary’s character uncover his potential after discovering he has dyslexia.
Meanwhile, another PTI report, quoting the filmmakers yesterday, stated ‘Maa’, has collected Rs 11.19 crore nett at the domestic box office in two days.
Also starring Indraneil Sengupta, Kherin Sharma and Ronit Roy alongside Kajol, the film released in theatres on Friday.
Presented by Jio Studios and Devgn Films, the mythological horror film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande and co-produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak. It is written by Saiwyn Quadras and directed by Vishal Furia, known for ‘Lapachhapi’, ‘Criminal Justice’ and ‘Chhori’.
The makers shared the box office collection on the X handle, featuring the film’s poster. The text on it read, “Maa makes her mark! 11.19 crore NBOC India.” It further had a day-wise breakdown of the collection.
