As Women’s Day approaches, Shemaroo Entertainment is not just celebrating achievements but also questioning the deep-seated biases that still shape society.
With its latest campaign, #HarRoleIsHerRole, the media giant aims to spark real change by addressing gender-based stereotypes and promoting equal representation in every profession.
A striking social experiment formed the heart of this initiative. Shemaroo invited 10 artists to paint portraits of professionals—a chef, cricketer, scientist, army officer, wrestler, tailor, doctor, pilot, and firefighter. The results were eye-opening: every single artist painted only men, unconsciously reinforcing traditional gender roles. This experiment exposed how deeply ingrained societal biases remain, even among the most creative minds.

Arghya Chakravarty, Chief Operating Officer at Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd, stressed the need for industries to move beyond mere discussions. “We recognize the power of media in shaping perceptions. With #HarRoleIsHerRole, we’re not just talking about equality—we’re acting on it. Success should be defined by talent and ambition, not gender. At Shemaroo, we champion diversity not only in our content but also in our workplace, ensuring inclusivity at every level.”
Beyond this thought-provoking experiment, Shemaroo is tackling gender bias at its roots—in education. The company is redesigning traditional occupation charts, which have long reinforced stereotypes by depicting men in leadership roles and women in caregiving professions. These updated charts will be distributed across schools and NGOs, ensuring that the next generation grows up seeing a balanced, unbiased representation of career opportunities.

Anuja Trivedi, Chief Marketing Officer at Shemaroo Entertainment, emphasized how storytelling has the power to transform mindsets. “#HarRoleIsHerRole is not just a campaign—it’s a movement. By reshaping what children see, we’re shaping what they believe. True change begins with shifting perceptions, and at Shemaroo, we’re committed to making that vision a reality.”
This Women’s Day, Shemaroo Entertainment is urging people to rethink and reimagine a world where every role truly belongs to everyone. Because when equality is not just spoken about but visibly reflected, India smiles—and Shemaroo, true to its ethos, will continue working to keep ‘India Khush Hua.’
