The cult horror-comedy franchise ‘Scary Movie’ is making a comeback after 26 years, with its sixth instalment slated to release in Indian theatres on June 12, Paramount Pictures India has announced.
According to a PTI report, the upcoming film brings back the original core cast that helped turn the first movie into a global comedy phenomenon. Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris and Regina Hall will reprise their iconic roles as Shorty, Ray, Cindy and Brenda, respectively.
The original ‘Scary Movie’, released in 2000, became a defining parody of late-1990s horror films, blending slapstick comedy with sharp satire of popular genre tropes. Its irreverent humour and pop culture references struck a chord with audiences worldwide, spawning multiple sequels over the years.
The sixth film is directed by Michael Tiddes and promises to lampoon the current wave of horror reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, origin stories and what the makers describe as “every final chapter that absolutely isn’t final”. The film aims to poke fun at the ever-expanding horror universe trend that has dominated cinemas in recent years.
