India’s Reliance Animation is gearing up to bring the life of global football icon Diego Maradona to the screen, with the studio acquiring character IP rights to create an animated series based on the late star’s remarkable journey, The Variety reported.
The development, comes as the Mumbai-based division of Reliance Entertainment sets out to adapt Maradona’s rise—from his childhood years to becoming one of the most celebrated figures in world football—into a scripted series for streaming and television platforms.
The IP deal has been struck in partnership with SATTVICA SA, the rights holder in Argentina, and facilitated by Bridge Marketing Group Inc.
The project is currently in development, with details regarding the show’s creative team, distribution partners and release schedule expected to be announced in the coming months. The series aims to spotlight the defining moments of Maradona’s career, his personal hurdles and the enduring cultural influence he left behind.

Tejonidhi Bhandare, CEO of Reliance Animation, called the venture a milestone for the studio, noting that the team is committed to portraying Maradona’s spirit, struggles and triumphs in a way that appeals to viewers across age groups and cultures.
