Actor and producer Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media has announced an ambitious five-film slate, marking a significant expansion for the production banner.
The line-up includes the studio’s first Hindi project — an adaptation of Aravind Adiga’s acclaimed novel ‘Last Man in Tower’, with National Award-winning actor Manoj Bajpayee in the lead.
According to a PTI report, the Hindi adaptation will be directed by American filmmaker Ben Rekhi and is based on Adiga’s 2011 novel, which explores ambition, moral compromise, and the fragility of human relationships set against the rapidly changing landscape of modern India.
The announcement comes ahead of Spirit Media’s first home production ‘Kaantha’, starring Dulquer Salmaan and directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, which is set to release on November 14.
“With ‘Kaantha’ releasing soon, I’m thrilled to announce Spirit’s Hindi production debut with the adaptation of ‘Last Man in Tower’,” said Rana Daggubati, expressing his excitement about working with Bajpayee and Rekhi. “We couldn’t have had a better team of collaborators to do our first Hindi film with. These projects — ‘Kaantha’, ‘Last Man in Tower’, and others — have given us the opportunity to work with diverse creative voices, from writers to producers and directors,” he added.
Bajpayee, who plays the lead role, said adapting a literary work comes with both “meaning and responsibility.” He added, “With Rana Daggubati’s studio behind it, there is a strong sense of purpose and support. Their commitment to sincere storytelling gives this film the space and confidence it deserves. Working with Ben Rekhi has been a deeply fulfilling experience, and I’m grateful to have collaborated with talented co-actors who brought honesty and depth to every scene.”
Director Rekhi called Adiga “one of the greatest writers of our generation,” and said he was thrilled to bring the author’s vision to life with such a talented team.
Apart from ‘Last Man in Tower’ and ‘Kaantha’, Spirit Media’s upcoming Telugu slate includes ‘Dark Chocolate’, ‘Psyche Siddharth’, and ‘Premante’. ‘Dark Chocolate’, a dark comedy thriller, will be co-produced with Waltair Productions
In addition to producing and supporting regional cinema, Spirit Media has also played a key role in distributing critically acclaimed international titles, including Payal Kapadia’s ‘All We Imagine As Light’, which won the Grand Prix at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, and Rohan Parashuram ‘Kanawade’s Sabar Bonda’, a Sundance winner.
