Radhika Apte, known for her unconventional film choices and nuanced performances, is all set to return to the big screen with Karan Kandhari’s ‘Sister Midnight’.
The actress, who has built a reputation for championing offbeat roles, described her experience with the film as creatively liberating and emotionally honest.
According to an IANS report, Radhika shared her initial reaction to the script and what drew her to the role. “It felt very exciting. It was very honest. Karan just had written exactly what he wanted to make without thinking about other things. Like, what would commercial producers think of it? It was solely his vision,” she revealed.
The film, which reportedly features minimal dialogue, challenged the actress to rely on expression, movement, and subtle physicality. “There is such sparse dialogue, a lot had to be conveyed through just face and body. I thought that this is that kind of a film where you get to experiment, you really get to try something new,” she added.
Filmmaker Karan Kandhari also opened up about working with Apte and described their collaboration as one of the most fulfilling of his career.
‘Sister Midnight’, written and directed by Kandhari, is backed by Alastair Clark, Anna Griffin and Alan McAlex. Set in the bustling and layered landscape of Mumbai’s urban sprawl, the film features an ensemble cast including Ashok Pathak, Chhaya Kadam, Smita Tambe and Navya Sawant. The cinematography is handled by Sverre Sørdal while the film is edited by Napoleon Stratogiannakis.
Slated to release in Indian cinemas on May 30, the film is expected to offer a refreshing take on human emotion, instinctive performances, and immersive storytelling.
