News18 Bihar-Jharkhand has been awarded the National Media Award in the Electronic (Television) category for its ground-level coverage of the Bihar Assembly elections 2025. The honour was conferred by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, on the occasion of the 16th National Voters’ Day on January 25.
The recognition further strengthens News18 Bihar’s position in regional television journalism and reflects viewers’ trust in the channel for coverage of crucial national events, a press statement from the News18 network stated.
Bihar voted in two phases on November 6 and 11, 2025, recording one of the highest voter turnouts in the state’s history. During the election and counting period, the News18 network deployed reporting teams across all 38 districts and 46 counting centres, delivering continuous updates from the ground.
The channel combined on-field reporting with studio programming and verified results data. A dedicated Live Results system was developed to manage end-to-end data collection, processing, and dissemination, ensuring timely and accurate reporting on counting day.
News18 Bihar’s election coverage focused on local issues, voter sentiment, alliance dynamics, and constituency-level factors shaping the outcome, offering viewers context alongside real-time developments.
News18 Bihar is the State’s No. 1 and most-watched news channel, recognised for its sharp focus on civic issues and public accountability. With reporters on the ground across districts, the channel has consistently been among the first to report concerns related to governance, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and law and order, bringing local issues to the forefront, the statement added.
