Actor Pranav Mohanlal, son of legendary Malayalam star Mohanlal, is set to lead the upcoming horror thriller ‘Dies Irae’, a new cinematic offering from the team behind 2024’s critically acclaimed ‘Bramayugam’.
The film is written and directed by Rahul Sadasivan, and the first look was unveiled today by Pranav through a motion poster on Instagram, generating buzz across social media platforms.
As per Variety, ‘Dies Irae’ has completed principal photography and is currently in post-production. The film marks another collaboration between Sadasivan and Night Shift Studios, following the success of ‘Bramayugam’, a monochrome period horror drama that starred Mammootty and earned both box office and critical acclaim.
“With ‘Bramayugam,’ we were able to draw global attention to what Indian-horror thrillers could achieve. ‘Dies Irae’ is the next step in this pursuit. Pranav Mohanlal is set to leave an indelible footprint on this genre,” said Chakravarthy Ramachandra, founder and producer of Night Shift Studios, speaking to Variety.
Director Rahul Sadasivan also hinted at a tonal shift from his earlier works. “Compared to my previous films, ‘Dies Irae’ explores a diametrically opposite emotional spectrum which connects to the new generation,” he shared. “While it stays true to the horror-thriller space, it’s a very different beast in terms of narrative style and mood.”
Plot specifics remain tightly under wraps, but the film is expected to delve into fresh psychological terrain while retaining its horror core—something fans of Sadasivan’s brooding and atmospheric style are eagerly anticipating.
Produced by Night Shift Studios, ‘ ’ is poised for a worldwide theatrical release later this year, further cementing the studio’s ambitions to position Indian horror on the global map.
