The BBC has confirmed that its hit drama ‘Peaky Blinders’ will return with two brand-new series, opening a fresh chapter in the Shelby family saga. The announcement was made in a BBC media statement on October 3, 2025, confirming that the story will follow a new generation of Shelbys and once again be set in Birmingham.
The two upcoming series, created and written by Steven Knight, will be produced by Kudos (SAS Rogue Heroes, House of Guinness, Grantchester) and Garrison Drama, the team behind the original ‘Peaky Blinders’ series and film. Both series will be filmed at Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham and will be available on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK, while Netflix will stream them for global audiences.
Set in 1953, the story picks up in post-war Birmingham, a city rising from the destruction of World War II. Against the backdrop of rapid industrial and structural rebuilding, the race to control Birmingham’s reconstruction becomes a fierce battle, placing the Shelby family once again at the centre of power, danger and opportunity.
Creator Steven Knight expressed his excitement, saying, “I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the ‘Peaky Blinders’ story. Once again, it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”
BBC’s Director of Drama, Lindsay Salt, added, “This game-changing show made a huge impact when it first came to our screens 12 years ago. Steven has worked his magic once again, and we can’t wait to bring his scripts to life in Birmingham. There’s plenty of drama for Peaky fans to look forward to.”
Netflix also backed the revival, with Mona Qureshi saying, “We couldn’t be more excited to embark on a new chapter of ‘Peaky Blinders’. Steven Knight is a storyteller like no other, and global audiences are ready to be captivated anew.”
Banijay UK, which is co-producing the project, also hailed the move. CEO Patrick Holland called the series “one of the most iconic, era-defining dramas of our time,” and said the next chapters would grip both long-time fans and new audiences.
The revival is also being welcomed locally. Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, highlighted the show’s role in boosting Birmingham’s global recognition and tourism, noting that the production would also create new job opportunities for local people.
Each of the two new series will consist of six one-hour episodes. Steven Knight, Cillian Murphy, Karen Wilson, Martin Haines, Jamie Glazebrook, and executives from the BBC and Netflix will serve as executive producers.
Production is supported by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and marks the first major project under the BBC’s new partnership with WMCA and Create Central, aimed at expanding production investment in the West Midlands.
