The ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise is expanding to television with American streaming service Peacock greenlighting a new scripted series based on the long-running action film series, a PTI report from Los Angeles stated yesterday quoting an article from entertainment news outlet Variety.
Vin Diesel, who has headlined the franchise as protagonist Dominic Toretto since the first film in 2001, will executive produce the series alongside One Race’s Sam Vincent, Original Film’s Neal H Moritz and Pavun Shetty, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan.
The yet-to-be-titled series, which will debut in 2028, will be written by Mike Daniels, known for ‘Sons of Anarchy“, ‘Shades of Blue’ and ‘The Rockford Files’, and Wolfe Coleman.
The duo will serve as co-showrunners, pilot writers and executive producers, reported Variety.
Meanwhile, Deadline added that the project was one of the projects announced by Diesel during NBCUniversal’s Upfront event in May earlier in the year in New York.
“As you all know, we are very precious about these movies but over the last decade, we’ve realized that the fans have wanted more, they wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories,” he said at the Upfront.
“And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space,” Diesel had added in May.
Diesel said he came around on the idea after Universal Studios chief Donna Langley also took oversight of NBCUniversal’s TV operation last year. (The image used is a file photo)
