Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera has delivered a sharp critique of India’s current political environment in a candid conversation with host Abhishek Vyas on the latest episode of ‘The Powerful Humans’ podcast. Known for his outspoken views, Khera touched on leadership, dissent, and the shrinking space for free speech, while reflecting on the Congress party’s legacy and future direction.
The episode, released on YouTube, was structured as a free-flowing interview rather than a formal statement, with Khera speaking openly on issues ranging from Operation Sindoor to electoral bonds. Stressing the importance of democratic values, he remarked, “Silencing critics weakens the nation, not strengthens it,” underlining that questioning authority is the foundation of a healthy democracy. The conversation, as noted in the podcast’s press release, sought to foreground bold and uncompromising dialogue.
Khera praised Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, describing him as honest, compassionate, and committed to the country’s ideology. He recalled Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra as an emblem of inclusive politics and positioned him as an “ideal leader.” Reflecting on Congress’ legacy, he also invoked the vision of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, crediting him with laying the foundations of India’s computer and telecom revolution. “If Rajiv Gandhi had two more terms, India’s history would have been very different,” he observed.
Turning to current governance, Khera criticized the Modi government’s style, suggesting that “WhatsApp forwards inspire the Prime Minister’s language and thinking.” He raised concerns about India’s global standing, noting a lack of visible international support during recent crises, and questioned the government’s reluctance to address China directly.
Host Abhishek Vyas steered the conversation toward youth participation and the evolving role of media in shaping narratives. Both he and Khera agreed that India’s young citizens must push politics beyond rhetoric and embrace accountability as the core of nation-building.
Speaking about the ethos of his show, Vyas remarked, “The Powerful Humans is not about being powerful—it’s about being fearless. It’s about conversations that are bold, truthful, and uncompromising. This dialogue with Pawan Khera reflects that vision.”
