Celebrated Malayalam actor Parvathy Thiruvothu is all set to headline filmmaker Don Palathara’s upcoming directorial venture, marking one of the most anticipated collaborations in Malayalam cinema. The film will also feature acclaimed filmmaker-actor Dileesh Pothan alongside Thiruvothu, bringing together two of Kerala’s most refined performers on screen for the first time.
According to a PTI report, the yet-to-be-titled Malayalam project is being helmed by Don Palathara, known for his unique storytelling style and intimate exploration of human emotions and relationships. The film promises to stay true to Palathara’s signature sensibilities seen in acclaimed works like Family, Santhoshathinte Onnam Rahasyam, and 1956, Central Travancore.
This new project marks Thiruvothu’s first collaboration with both Palathara and Pothan. Although the makers have kept the storyline tightly under wraps, early buzz suggests it will be an emotionally charged drama, deeply rooted in realism and set against the scenic landscapes of Kerala. The film is expected to go on floors soon and will reportedly be shot extensively across the state.
Expressing her excitement about the collaboration, Parvathy said working with Don Palathara has long been on her wishlist. “Don Palathara’s movies hold up a mirror to how we live and love, often without judgment or noise. To step into that kind of world as an actor is very liberating. His films have a powerfully meditative quality — he invites us to actively engage in reflecting on how we live,” she said in a statement.
She further added, “As an actor, I find that kind of space exhilarating because it demands that you unlearn performance and simply be. This is also incredibly challenging. Working with him has been on my wishlist for a while, and I’m thrilled that this project came my way. And to share the screen with Dileesh, someone whose creative sensitivity I’ve admired for years, feels like an opportunity to be a student again.”
Don Palathara, often celebrated for his minimalist storytelling and character-driven narratives, is known for portraying the nuances of human behavior and social undercurrents with quiet intensity. His films have been screened at various international film festivals, earning him a reputation as one of Malayalam cinema’s most distinctive contemporary voices.
Parvathy, who continues to choose layered and impactful roles, is currently gearing up for multiple projects. She will soon be seen leading Storm, the debut production venture of Hrithik Roshan, and is also set to reunite with filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar after 13 years since their last collaboration on Maryan.
With a powerhouse combination of Parvathy Thiruvothu, Dileesh Pothan, and Don Palathara, this upcoming film is shaping up to be one of the most awaited Malayalam releases, promising an introspective and emotionally rich cinematic experience for audiences.
