Senior Congress leader Tariq Anwar has confirmed Tejashwi Yadav as the clear Chief Ministerial face of the alliance ahead of the upcoming Bihar elections.
Speaking on Live Times’ flagship prime-time show Point Blank with Deepak Chaurasia, Anwar shared his candid assessment of the state’s political landscape, highlighting the Congress party’s commitment to rebuilding its base and challenging narratives being pushed by opposition parties. The special episode is scheduled to air on Sunday, October 12 at 8 pm.
In the interview, with Live Times, Anwar stated, “It’s but obvious — Tejashwi will be our CM candidate. The announcement will be made at the right time, but there’s no second opinion on that.” Reflecting on Congress’s performance in Bihar, he admitted past shortcomings: “Yes, Congress has been weak in Bihar. After our poor performance in the last elections, we should have started working harder immediately, but we failed to do so — that’s our shortcoming. However, this time, we’re fully committed to rebuilding our base and reconnecting with the people.”
On other political issues, Anwar dismissed claims of infiltration in Bihar, calling them a polarisation tactic by the BJP, and downplayed the electoral impact of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, asserting that Bihar voters are politically aware. He also offered a measured view on political strategist Prashant Kishor, stating that while PK’s efforts are notable, it is difficult to gauge whose votes he will influence.
Dilip Singh, Founder of Live Times, highlighted the significance of the episode: “This interview adds a crucial perspective from the Congress camp. Point Blank continues to bring candid, fact-based conversations with the people who shape India’s politics.”
