Nielsen has announced changes to its Streaming Content Ratings (SCR) service, making streaming viewership data available to clients daily instead of once a week. The update applies to Nielsen’s US streaming measurement.
According to a Nielsen press release today, the new system will reduce SCR data delivery time by up to 80 percent. Clients will now receive data every business day for viewing that took place two days earlier. This will bring the speed of streaming measurement closer to the reporting speed of linear TV.
The company said the faster reporting will give clients more timely and up-to-date information about what audiences are watching, helping them make quicker decisions in the competitive media market.
Nielsen is also speeding up its weekly Streaming Top 10 reports. The reporting delay will be reduced by half, allowing the reports to be delivered on a faster schedule.
Nielsen expects to publish its first accelerated Top 10 report on September 17, 2026, covering the measurement period from August 31 to September 6, 2026.
Brian Fuhrer, Senior Vice President, Product Strategy and Thought Leadership at Nielsen, said the change could be one of the company’s most significant enhancements to Streaming Content Ratings since its launch in 2017.
The latest update is part of Nielsen’s wider efforts to improve audience measurement across TV and streaming. Recent developments include expanded co-viewing insights, Big Data + Panel measurement, first-party data integrations for live streaming measurement and nationwide out-of-home measurement. Nielsen also continues to provide industry benchmarks such as The Gauge and the weekly Streaming Top 10 rankings.
