NDTV is set to mark Republic Day with a special edition of its long-running and iconic programme ‘Jai Jawan’, bringing audiences closer to the lives of Indian Army personnel through an immersive on-ground episode featuring actor Bhumi Pednekar.
According to an NDTV press release, the Republic Day special has been shot in and around Shillong and offers a rare, intimate look at life inside the Assam Regimental Centre. The episode follows Pednekar as she spends a day with officers and jawans in training, beginning with her arrival across the serene waters of Umiam Lake and unfolding into a deeper exploration of the discipline, preparation and sense of duty that define life in uniform.
Throughout the episode, viewers are taken inside one of the Army’s key training establishments, where Pednekar observes live tactical drills and assault manoeuvres, watches young recruits being put through rigorous physical and mental exercises, and interacts closely with soldiers preparing for operational roles. The programme highlights how endurance, coordination and split-second decision-making are built through months, and often years, of structured training.
A strong focus is also placed on leadership and mentorship within the ranks. Senior officers are seen guiding recruits through complex exercises, explaining not just the commands, but the responsibility and accountability that come with them. These moments underline how the Army prepares its personnel not only for combat situations, but also for leadership in the most demanding circumstances.
Beyond the training grounds, the special captures quieter, more personal moments. In candid conversations, soldiers speak about families left behind, the realities of long and remote postings, and the pride they feel in serving the nation. Informal interactions and shared moments of humour and reflection reveal the camaraderie that sustains them through separation, uncertainty and sacrifice.
Reflecting on her experience during the episode, Pednekar says the visit left a lasting impact on her. Having grown up watching Jai Jawan, she describes being on the ground with soldiers as overwhelming, adding that some moments leave one with ‘nothing to say — only respect’.
Rahul Kanwal, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of NDTV, said the Republic Day episode embodies the channel’s editorial ethos. He noted that ‘Jai Jawan’ has always been among NDTV’s most meaningful formats, built on deep respect for the armed forces, and that the special with Pednekar captures the discipline, compassion and courage of the Indian Army at a time when such stories matter most.
The special episode will air on January 26 across the NDTV network at multiple time slots on NDTV India, NDTV 24×7, NDTV MP-CG and NDTV Rajasthan.
