NDTV Digital has appointed media industry veteran Vinay Sarawagi as its new Chief Content Officer, strengthening its leadership team as the company accelerates its digital transformation and focuses on building future-ready content capabilities.
According to an NDTV statement, Sarawagi will be responsible for leading content strategy across the network’s digital platforms. His mandate will include leveraging artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to enhance storytelling, deepen editorial engagement and create scalable content solutions for evolving digital audiences.
A seasoned media professional with more than two decades of experience, Sarawagi brings extensive expertise in editorial leadership, digital innovation and media business strategy. Prior to joining NDTV Digital, he served as Co-Founder and CEO of The Media GCC, a specialised global capability centre that worked with media and broadcasting organisations on content strategy, technology transformation and revenue optimisation, with a particular emphasis on AI-led disruption.
Over the course of his career, he has held leadership positions at several prominent media organisations, including Times Group, Network18, Business Standard, Reuters, DNA and India Today. In these roles, he played a key part in driving digital growth initiatives across editorial operations, audience development and revenue functions.
Sarawagi holds a Master’s degree in Media Management, a Diploma in Cyber Laws and is also a CNN Fellow. His appointment comes at a time when news organisations are increasingly exploring the role of artificial intelligence, automation and data-driven insights in content creation and audience engagement.
Welcoming him to the organisation, Rahul Kanwal, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of NDTV, said Sarawagi brings a strong blend of editorial expertise, digital experience and strategic vision. He added that as NDTV continues to expand its digital footprint, Sarawagi’s leadership will help the company create content that remains credible, contemporary and relevant to audiences across the globe.
Purva Misra, Chief People Officer at NDTV, highlighted Sarawagi’s collaborative leadership style and his focus on reimagining newsroom operations through AI-driven innovation. She said his ability to foster open discussions and exchange ideas aligns with the organisation’s vision for the future.
Commenting on his appointment, Sarawagi said NDTV has long been synonymous with credibility and public trust. He noted that journalism is undergoing significant transformation driven by technology, changing audience behaviour and new storytelling formats, and expressed enthusiasm about contributing to the next phase of NDTV Digital’s growth.
The appointment forms part of NDTV Digital’s broader strategy to build a more agile and technology-enabled newsroom. As media consumption habits continue to evolve rapidly, the company is seeking to combine the trust and legacy associated with the NDTV brand with innovation, speed and audience-centric approaches to digital journalism.
With Sarawagi at the helm of content strategy, NDTV Digital is expected to further strengthen its focus on AI-powered workflows, digital-first storytelling and audience engagement, positioning itself for the next phase of growth in India’s increasingly competitive digital news ecosystem.
